INTRODUCTION This application allows you to
convert your animated or static GIF files to SWF (shockwave
format). The shockwave format is the same format used in Flash
movies. This allows you to optimize file size while
maintaining image quality for use in Banners, Icons, Intros,
etc. It requires the Macromedia Flash player.
HOW
TO USE GIF2SWF 1.) Launch GIF2SWF, then open [File]/[Add
Files] and get the files you wish to convert. 2.) Select
the options you prefer, optimizations, etc. (for details see
technical notes below). 3.) Press convert button, your
Shockwave files will be created and saved in the same
directory as your source files.
CONTEXT MENUS 1.)
Locate a Gif format image file. 2.) Right-clicking the GIF
file a context menu appears with two GIF2SWF options (if you
don't see these options, please reinstall the program) 3.)
The first option converts the file putting it directly in the
same folder and using the last used GIF2SWF parameters.
4.) The second option will add this file or files to the
GIF2SWF conversion list, note that GIF2SWF is started if you
don't have the program running.
CHANGING DESTINATION FOLDER If you are converting a large number of GIF's you
will probably need to put all the resulting SWF in another
folder. 1.) Start GIF2SWF 2.) First of all you have to
specify the destination folder going to [File]/[Destination
folder] and selecting the folder you wish to put the SWF
files. 3.) Add the files to convert using "context menu",
"drag and drop", etc. 4.) You can also repeat the step 2,
or proceed to the conversion.
TECHNICAL NOTES 1.)
Optimize canvas size: In an animated GIF, the first frame
contains the size of the canvas, otherwise in SWF format all
the bitmaps have an independent size, optimizing in that way
the archive size. If you enable this option all the pixels
around the image that have the same color will be removed. In
addition, if you use the option GIF background, only the
pixels around the image that have the same color as the
background will be removed.
2.) GIF background: if you
activate this option, the Shockwave background will be the
same as the background defined in GIF file, also this option
gives a different result when it is active at the same time as
option. (see above)
3.) Protect from import: this
option protects the SWF file from editing in the authoring
tool, appropriate for the author which wants to protect his
work.
PUBLISHING SETTINGS 1.) Border correction :
The zoom in Macromedia Flash 4 & 5 only allows for 99.9%
viewing of your animation. By choosing "Border Correction" a
transparent border is placed around all bitmaps leaving you
100% viewing.
2.) HTML Options: This option allows you
to automatically generate the necessary HTML code. With this
option "checked" GiF2SwF creates a web page with the
appropriate object/embed statement in the htm/html file.
3.) Show Full Flash Menu: This refers to the Flash
menu in your swf file after processing.
